Happy 901 Day, Memphis!

At Ting, we believe in investing in the communities we serve, and 901 Day is the perfect reminder of why that matters.

Every city has its own heartbeat, but Memphis has a way of wearing its pride right on its sleeve. Pun intended: (Memphis is known for its Grit and Grind). Each year on September 1st, "901 Day," Memphians come together to celebrate the people, places, and culture that make this city one of a kind. The name is a nod to Memphis’s 901 area code, but the day has grown into something much more: a citywide holiday dedicated to community, culture, creativity, and connection. There are several community events, block parties, DJ sets, pop-up activations and ($9.01) discounts offered throughout the city, in various neighborhoods, a week leading up to the holiday. Famous musicians like 8Ball and MJG, Moneybagg Yo and more return home to the city to show gratitude for where it all started, through live performances.

When I first moved here, six years ago, I quickly learned that 901 Day isn’t just another date on the calendar, but a chance to experience Memphis in full color. From live music and food festivals to neighborhood pop-ups and local business specials, the entire city feels alive with energy. It’s a reminder that Memphis isn’t defined only by its rich history in music, athletics, and civil rights, but also by the people who keep building on and improving that legacy every single day.

For me, 901 Day has become a tradition that feels both personal and communal. It’s about cosplaying as a tourist and discovering new corners of the city, supporting local businesses, and sharing in the kind of joy that only comes from celebrating where you live. It’s also a moment to reflect on how deeply Memphians love their city, and how that pride is contagious.

At Ting, we believe in investing in the communities we serve, and 901 Day is the perfect reminder of why that matters. Just like Memphis, we’re about connection; whether that’s through fast, reliable internet or through supporting the people and organizations that make neighborhoods thrive.

So, here’s to 901 Day: a celebration of Memphis, culture, community, and of the everyday connections that make this city feel like home.
