Hey Memphis!
On October 29, 1969, a computer at UCLA was successfully connected to a machine at Stanford via the ARPANET. Since ARPANET is considered the predecessor to the internet as we know it, we now celebrate that date annually as National Internet Day!
Ting is excited to celebrate National Internet Day, which happens to fall pretty close to when our first customers will be able to sign up in Memphis. (We didn’t quite plan that, but we love the timing.)
As we get started with service, we've got two initiatives we’re rolling out in Memphis to highlight what great internet can help people achieve. Because, sure, we could just tell you that internet access is awesome, and that we want to advance digital equity in Memphis. But we figured actions speak louder than words. We’re going to be showing off Memphis’ entrepreneurial spirit by turning the spotlight on the local small businesses that are a critical part of the community. At the same time, we’ll be offering free service to invaluable organizations that directly support Memphis communities.
Supporting Small Business
Through our Friends of Ting program, we’ve connected dozens of businesses in other towns and cities to free high-speed internet service. With those businesses’ help, we’ve been able to spread the word about Ting in their communities. In Memphis, we plan to take our local business partnerships to the next level.
We’ll be selecting a local business to highlight on a co-branded digital billboard throughout November, at no cost to them. We’ll also be able to highlight a few others through our other digital marketing channels.
Interested in having us highlight your business? Use the form below to tell us how you’d use a digital billboard or digital ads to connect with your customers and community, and we’ll reach out to introduce ourselves and talk about how we can help you get the word out.
A few things to note before you submit:
Connecting Non-Profits with our Community Partners Program
Ting’s Community Partners Program provides free internet access to nonprofit community organizations, libraries, and designated affordable housing communities. We created this program to make Ting fiber internet accessible to more people and to the organizations that support our local neighborhoods. To be selected as a Community Partner, please share your story about how high-speed internet access would help your organization better serve your community.
We look forward to celebrating National Internet Day with the city of Memphis—but this is just the start. These initiatives are just part of our continued mission to use digital connectivity to support local small businesses and community organizations (including everyone who benefits from them). We look forward to working with you to help enrich local communities by making the power of fiber internet accessible to all.
Do you have a favorite local business or non-profit organization in Cordova, Orange Mound, or Raleigh? Feel free to let them know about this opportunity.
