From the National Civil Rights Museum to Tech901: What we learned in Memphis
In honor of MLK Day, members of the Ting team traveled to our newest market, Memphis, TN.
To celebrate what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 96th birthday, we visited the National Civil Rights Museum at the former Lorraine Motel, where Dr. King was tragically assassinated while supporting Memphis sanitation workers in their fight for fair wages and better working conditions. Reflecting on this pivotal moment in the civil rights movement reinforced our commitment to bridging digital divides, as racial and socioeconomic disparities continue to impact access to reliable, high-speed internet. We left Memphis inspired to connect more residents and businesses to fiber internet and the most affordable mobile service in town.
While in Memphis, we also visited Tech901 to donate refurbished laptops and connect with Executive Director Aaron Lamey. Tech901’s IT workforce development program is shaping the next generation of tech talent, and we’re excited to see what the 2025 graduates accomplish in their careers.
Another highlight of our trip was volunteering at the Children’s Museum of Memphis, a hands-on learning space that relies on volunteers to keep exhibits fresh and clean. By helping with exhibit upkeep, we supported the museum’s mission to keep admission affordable and provide enriching programming for local youth. It was rewarding to contribute to a space that makes such a meaningful impact on the community.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without catching a Memphis Grizzlies game at the FedEx Forum! We loved seeing the team highlight MENTOR Memphis Grizzlies, a program that unites local organizations, businesses, and civic leaders to support youth mentorship.
