Stop paying for fun games and start renting them

Looking for fun games to play online? Let's take a quick look at three of the services that are offering video games as a monthly subscription service.

Looking for fun games to play online? In the past, if you wanted to play a video game your only option was to buy it. Later, services like BlockBuster offered a limited rental of games for a few days. Now Google, EA and Apple are launching subscription streaming services that let you pay one monthly fee to play a huge catalog of games.

Today, we are going to take a quick look at three of the services that are offering access to video games as a monthly subscription service.

EA Origin Access

EA Origin Access is the only service we are talking about that is currently available. Right now, starting at $4.99 a month, or $29.99 a year, you can get access to a huge catalog of fun games on your PC. Even big-name games like Battlefield V, Star Wars Battlefront, Into the Breach and so many more. Want to buy a game? You can get 10% off Origin purchases for popular games.

If you play a lot of games and want the ability to bounce between different games, EA Origin Access may be the gaming service for you.

Google Stadia

Google is jumping into cloud-based gaming by launching Stadia. Stadia is a subscription streaming service tied to a gaming controller, also called Stadia, that will connect to a Chromecast Ultra. It will include games like Final Fantasy 15, Tomb Raider Trilogy, Doom Eternal, Destiny 2 and many more for just $9.99 per month, after the initial $129 “Founder’s Edition” hardware starter kit, which comes with three months of premium service.

The main thing that makes Google Stadia stand out from other services is it will be 100% streamed. Unlike EA and Apple, you won’t have an option to download the games.

Stadia is currently scheduled to be released in November 2019.

Apple Arcade

Do you use Apple TV, Mac, iPad, or an iPhone? Starting this fall, Apple will be rolling out Apple Arcade, a game service that will give you access to a huge collection of fun games made for Apple devices. Currently, information is very thin on this new service, but here is what we know:

Apple Arcade will be ad-free with no in-app purchases. You will get off-line access and can share your account with up to six family members. According to Fossbytes, Apple Arcade will cost $12.99 per month.

For now, we will have to wait for Apple to release more details before we know what to make of Apple Arcade.

Apple Arcade has an excellent 1:02 minute YouTube video about its service, provided below.
